Specialised K-2 school
We are the only Government Infant school in Tasmania that specialises in Early Childhood Education, and this distinction is reflected in our innovated teaching and learning programs.
All our teaching and learning programs are overarched by the principles and practices of the Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia.
Our Grade 2 students have the unique opportunity to develop leadership skills through our ‘Peer Leader’ program. They organise our Fun and Fitness program by leading our younger students in daily exercise, undertake a number of fundraising activities throughout the year and are responsible for hosting important school events and assemblies along with many additional leadership responsibilities. Our students leave at the end of four years with a strong sense of responsibility, citizenship and self-confidence.
Our Kindergarten students are successfully integrated into all aspects of our school and enjoy the opportunity to confidently play and explore in our shared playground. Kindergarten students attend three full days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in 2019) and participate in our daily Fun and Fitness program, specialist lessons (Music and PE) and a buddy program. Our Kindergarten classroom and learning program is enriched with a full time Teacher Assistant who brings a wealth of artistic flair and passion for literature to the learning program.
Being a small school we have the opportunity to share a learning inquiry unit across our school. This provides opportunity for classes or the whole school to share learning opportunities or experiences.
Examples of our shared inquiries are:
- Our school celebrating the 130th history; Our Story, Our Place. Connectedness: How place, time and relationship brings us together.
- ‘How does the Garden Grow?’ Linking our focus on growing and developing a shared school vegetable garden.
- ‘How we impact on Antarctica?’ Linking sustainability, global warming and how our daily actions impact on the world.
